Christmas and New Year

Employees are entitled to receive paid time off on Christmas Day; and also, on other bank/public holidays i.e. 26 December and 1 January 2026.

For those employees who are required to work on such days they are entitled to be paid for their time and receive paid time off in lieu at a later date.

If an employer offers an employee who has worked on a Public/Bank Holiday, the option of being paid at the rate of double time (rather than being paid the normal daily rate with an alternative day off) and the employee accepts then the employer has no further obligations in respect of that day.
