Redundancy and Lay Offs

In Jersey there is, as yet, no legislation that provides for statutory redundancy payments or defines what should happen if an employer decides to lay off employees. Measures dealing with redundancy are planned within Phase 2 of Employment and Social Security Committee’s employment legislation programme. The following must, therefore, be regarded as general information only and is largely based on the situation that exists in the UK. It does, however, give an overview of good practice.

Reference to the UK is made in the information given below, on occasions, simply to explain how various issues are dealt with elsewhere or to provide examples of good practice.
