Redundancy and Lay Offs
Statutory redundancy payments will be provided from January 1st 2011, following enactment of Amendment No. 5 to the Employment Law. Please see JACS Guideline No. 11 for further information.
There is no planned legislatioin that we are aware of that will deal with the laying off of employees and such provisions required by employers should be spelled out in the employment contract.
Further measures dealing with redundancy (such as redeployment as an alternative to redundancy and steps to be taken when an employer plans to make groups of employees redundant) will be set out in a further amendment to the Employment Law which it is understood is planned to be in place during 2011.
