Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment
Jersey Law does not specifically deal with discrimination issues at present, although the States of Jersey has made clear its intention to bring forward a Law dealing with discrimination in the near future.
JACS already deals with a number of requests from employees and employers in regard to matters of discrimination, bullying or harassment over a wide range of topics. A number of employers have already introduced non-discriminatory policies in anticipation of future legislation and because they believe that it is proper to do so.
On 13th April 2006 the Community Relations Trust, an independent body accountable to the Island’s community, launched the Jersey Anti-Discrimination Promise. This is a simple statement of six guiding principles which the organisation promises to commit to.
The trust can be contacted by telephone on 631431, by email communityrelations@jerseymail.co.uk or at 16 Royal Square, St. Helier, JE2 4WA. Its website is www.communityrelationstrust.com.
To help employers develop and introduce policies and procedures that support their objectives to be non-discriminatory, JACS has developed a number of guidelines and model policies.
