Proposed new legislation

Redundancy and Business Transfers: On 25th April the Social Security Minister responded to the Employment Forum’s recommendation on two proposed pieces of legislation, a Redundancy Law and a Business Transfer Law (TUPE type).

It is expected that draft amendments will be put to the States in late 2007, early 2008. Once approved by the States, there remains the need to obtain Privy Council approval prior to the redundancy and business transfer amendments becoming law, probably in late 2008.

Maternity, Paternity and Family Friendly Law: A comprehensive consultation document is now in circulation. Responses to the Employment Forum are required by 10th August 2007.

Discrimination Law: The Chief Minister’s Department has commenced consultation on the proposed Discrimination Law. The first set of Regulations proposed deal with Race Discrimination, with Regulations on Sex, Disability and Age Discrimination to follow. http://www.gov.je/ChiefMinister/PublicConsultations/Past+consultations
