Proposed new legislation
Redundancy and Business Transfers:
On 1st April 2009 the States agreed the Social Security Minister’s recommendation on amendments to the Employment (Jersey) Law 2003 to provide for statutory redundancy pay. The amendment is currently awaiting Privy Council approval and is likely to be in force by spring 2010. The Minister is currently finalising arrangements to bring forward further legislation for an Insolvency Fund and a Business Transfer Law (TUPE type).
Maternity, Paternity and Family Friendly Law:
The Employment Forum Consultation Paper on Maternity, Paternity and Family Friendly Working was published some time ago and its recommendations are due to be considered by the Minister.
Discrimination Law:
The first regulations proposed deal with race discrimination have been delayed and are unlikely to be in force until 2011. Proposals to introduce Regulations dealing with Sex, Disability and Age Discrimination will follow. http://www.gov.je/ChiefMinister/PublicConsultations/Past+consultations
